BEAUTY HACKS!

Makeup is something we all experimented with in our youth. Crazy blue eyeliner and dark lipsticks were among only a few of the bold trends that marked our adolescence. For those of us who still like to wear a full face of makeup, here are a few tips to help keep it looking fresh all day long.

Let’s start with the lips. Fuller lips have been in style for a few years now. Recently, celebrities have toned down the lip injections and have been opting for a more natural look. Luckily for us, we can stop overlining our lips since lip liner tends to seep into fine lines and wrinkles. This is called “bleeding.” To prevent bleeding, we can use a universal lip liner which is a colorless product that can line the outer border of where we want the lipstick to stay.

Also, a darker lip colour can make our lips appear smaller. A neutral lip liner with a sheer or natural toned lipstick will do the trick and can work for any occasion, day or night.

Another thing to remember is the maintenance of your makeup throughout the day. For example, mascara can leave those dreaded black dots under our eyes. These can leave the appearance of dark circles or the “last night’s makeup effect.” Let’s face it, that was never a good look, even in our 20s. To make sure this never happens, just keep a couple of cotton swabs in your purse. You can keep them in a small tin or in your to-go makeup bag.

Hydration will always play a role in beauty. Whether it be before you lay down your makeup or throughout the day. It is important to moisturize in the morning and at night. But, during the day, it can be very convenient to carry a small can of water to spray your face with. It can be sprayed over your full face of makeup with virtually no fear of ruining your masterpiece. The water is refreshing and can prevent creasing of your concealer or powders in areas such as the eye contour and around the corners of the mouth.

Last but not least, we have the eyebrows. Though it is important to fill them in, we don’t have to darken them up too much. It’s much easier to use a pencil or a powder that is closest to our natural hair colour, if not even a little bit lighter. When shaping the eyebrows, we don’t have to do that famous Instagram block brow. By filling them in, we are giving our face some structure with our natural features. However, something to avoid at all costs is a droopy tail. It can make your eyes seem sad and add years on which isn’t flattering to anyone. An eyebrow’s tail should never be pointing directly down. It should be somewhere between straight across your forehead and pointing to your earlobe.

I hope you can incorporate a few of these quick and easy tricks into your daily routine.
